Linking to a sub page

Once a sub page has been created in the administration area, it needs to be linked to one of the pages so it is accessible to visitors on the website.  (The page can be previewed by you or others before being linked to your site; see below for more information.)

Linking a sub page to an existing page

  1. Click on the Sub Page link in the administration area.

  2. From the list of sub pages, click on the name of the sub page to which you want create a link.

  3. At the top of the next page, highlight and copy the link at the top of the page that looks like "displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=1".

  4. Go to the web page that will contain the link to the sub page.

  5. Highlight the text on that page that will be the link to the sub page.

  6. Click on the Hyperlink icon (chain link in top row toolbar) and the Hyperlink Properties window will display.

  7. In the URL field, paste in the link that was just copied.

  8. If a new browser window should open when someone goes to the sub page, enter "_blank" in the Target field. Otherwise, don't type anything into the target field.  Click OK when finished.

    NOTE:
Normally, the only time you use _blank as the target for a sub page link is when the sub page does not have the top banner and left navigation.

  9. Save your page.  If you wish, you can go to the front end of the site and test your newly created link to be sure it works as you expect.

Previewing a sub page before linking

Until you link a sub page to one of your existing pages, no one who comes to your site can see it.  If you have said "Yes" to the sub page option of allowing the page to be searched, then someone could find it by using your Site search, but otherwise there's no way for them to view the page without "guessing" URLs.

You can preview one of your own pages before linking it very easily.  From the main sub page listing, click the View icon to the right of the page's name to preview it.  Or, while editing a sub page, click the link at the top to preview.

You can send the complete link to the subpage (including http:// and your site's domain name) to anyone you wish if you want them to preview the page before you officially link it to your site.
