The National Gas Rodeo features gas company teams from across the nation that have earned their way up from company and local competitions to the national competition.
Competition began Saturday morning, September 28th, with all teams competing in four timed, qualifying events: Meter Set, 6" Pipe Cut, Hand Dig, and a Service Installation. The top 15 teams then moved on to the Rodeo Relay, Saturday afternoon.

The Rodeo Relay requires a wide range of skills and consists of a series of six events: Truck & Trailer Back-up, Egg Pick-up (using a backhoe), Plastic Pipe Squeeze Off, Softball Pick-up (using a trencher), and Regulator Bypass. The relay ends at the Water Cooler.

Event Winners (team with the fastest time in each event):

1) Meter Set: Paris Hookers-Ameren (53.84 seconds)
2) Pipe Cut: The Heat-Missouri Gas Energy
(17.34 seconds)
3) Service Installation: The Crawdads-Entergy
(87.39 seconds)
4) Hand Dig: The Misfits-Atlanta Gas Light Co.
(57.27 seconds)
5) Relay Event: Paris Hookers-Ameren
(201.66 seconds)

New Consolation Event

The new Aluminum Meter Toss Consolation Event provided an opportunity for Rodeo teams to demonstrate their strengths and abilities. Only teams that did not qualify to participate in the Rodeo Relay were eligible for this event. Each team was allowed one toss by one member, and the longest toss was awarded the National Gas Rodeo Aluminum Meter Toss Award, donated by Ameren. Congratulations to this year's winner: The Ignition Source from Puget Sound Energy with a throw of 89' 11" feet. Second and third place went to California Hot Squeezers from Sand Diego Gas & Electric (85' 11") and Tennessee Patriots from Jackson Energy Authority (82" 4"). Very Impressive throws!

MEA's Trail Boss Award is presented each year to honor a behind-the-scenes person whose selfless hard work and unwavering commitment directly contributes to the Rodeo's success. Congratulations and thank you to this year's Trail Boss Award recipient: Terry Wilson, Director of the City of Fairview Heights Parks and Recreation Department - Thanks Terry for your great work!
