Setting Forum Preferences to receive email notifications when people post in a forum or thread within a forum.

When ALL is selected you will receive email notifications for each response and each new discussion thread within a forum. i.e. All present and all new discussions within the Energetic Women Forum.

In the example below - any post in Energetic Women (reply's or new discussions) will result in an email notification.

When THREADS is selected you will receive email notifications for any posts within a particular thread (current threaded discussions only). i.e. Forum Elizabeth's Understanding selected discussion: Website Tips.

In the example below, if Elizabeth posts a new discussion thread the person will not receive a notification.

Note: Within this Message board Threads and Discussions are the same thing.

Font:

The Text Editor automatically picks Verdana (the font) at size 3. For readability size 2 is suggested. Size 2 allows the reader to see more text in their browser window - limits scrolling.

Sample Size 3

Sample Size 2

NOTE: If using Mozilla FireFox choose font size 10.

Content Creation - Using the Text Editor

This system allows you to create online discussions without the need for extra software.  A Text Editor is integrated with the forum, and it allows you to add topics and reply to discusions.

Having problems copying and pasting from Word?

2 things to try:

  • Check to make sure you are using Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox
    • This is the only browser which fully supports our message board
    • The Text Editor does not open properly in other browsers
  • Try copying and pasting from "Notepad"
    • Warning: you WILL loose ALL formatting

How do I insert a graphic into my response?

In the text editor - click on the photo frame icon. It opens a pop-up. Enter the complete URL into the SOURCE line for the graphic you wish to insert. For example: http://www.midwestenergy.org/associations/4006/files/intro_ThankYou.jpg Then hit OK. Your graphic will appear in the text box.

Please note your graphic must be hosted on a website in order to insert it into your response. You can not copy and paste it into your response.

How do I attach a document?

You can not attach a document to your response but you can copy and paste it into your response. It may look strange and loose some formatting.

The best option for maintaining format is to save the file as .html (you can do this with Word documents) and then copy and paste. REMEMBER you can not copy and paste photos/images, they must be linked - see above.

How do I link to a document?

It is best to LINK to documents such as PowerPoints, Excel Documents, Video and Audio. Host the document on a website and copy it's URL.  You can paste the URL into the text editor for your response or highlight text that says "Click Here" and click on the chain icon in the text editor. This opens a pop-up, paste the URL into the URL line and type "_blank" into the target line (do not include the quotation marks). Click OK.

For this example I linked to a graphic hosted on MEA's website.
